Gyropool - the future of cruising?
I love pool. I play snooker in the Birmingham league and have played for many many pool teams, reaching County standard with Cumbria several years ago. I like the idea of playing pool at sea but wouldn't want the bals rolling around all over the table in rough seas. Well, at a rather hefty cost, Royal Caribbean have come up with an answer to this dilemma - gyroscopic pool tables!
As something that to me holds real appeal, I've been looking around the web for reviews of these and these are my findings:
"There is a billiard room with two high end tables ($75,000) which have a gyroscope system which adjusts the whole table to accomodate the roll of this ship. It works great, although when the ship is really rolling, you can see both the ship and the table moving in different directions, and it is VERY WIERD, although fun. If they could add twisted cues and elliptical billiard balls, one could play one nutty game."

"There were two "Gyro" billiard tables (we were told they were worth $90,000 each) to play on. We waited about twenty minutes to play on an "at sea" day, and it seemed like the bartender let people play from thirty minutes to an hour depending on the line. Anyways, it is free to play, and you have to at least try it once because it's so cool just watching how the table works! The tables basically move to counteract the movement of the ship so the balls stay perfectly still. So, you can see the tables move like waves when we were in rough waters. "
