Seven Godmothers Sail the Seven Seas

Royal Caribbean International officially named its newest cruise ship, Oasis of the Seas, on December the 6th 2009. As has been tradition for centuries, she was christened with a Godmother to look after her... or more specifically, SEVEN Godmothers! Gloria Estefan, Daisy Fuentes, Shawn Johnson, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Michelle Kwan, Jane Seymour and Dara Torres all took their places in history at the launch of this magnificent and revolutionary new ship.

The celebration took place throughout the seven signature neighborhoods onboard Oasis of the Seas, being the Youth Zone, the Pool Deck, the Entertainment areas, Central Park, the Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade and the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Centre and finished with the traditional Champagne-bottle-breaking followed by a fireworks display in the ocean-front AquaTheater. You can find videos of the proceedings on the ship's dedicated website, http://www.oasisoftheseas.com/.

Typical of Royal Caribbean's legacy of imagination and innovation, Oasis of the Seas introduces unique industry "firsts" including the aforementioned "neighbourhood" concept - seven main themed areas providing guests with the opportunity to seek out relevant experiences based on their personal style, preference or mood. Onboard, you'll find incredible innovations such as the first living park at sea; a thrilling zip line that races diagonally nine-decks above an open-air atrium; an original hand-crafted carousel; 28 multilevel urban-style loft suites boasting floor-to-ceiling windows; an amphitheatre-style theatre that serves as a pool by day and a dazzling ocean front theatre by night; and an array of epicurean innovations that allow for new culinary experiences each day of a guest's cruise vacation.

Oasis of the Seas is the largest and most revolutionary cruise ship in the world. An architectural marvel at sea, she spans 16 decks, encompasses 225,282 Gross Registered Tons, carries 5,400 guests at double occupancy, and features 2,700 staterooms. The ship will sail out of her home port of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
